Bring in Girardi

I have officially made my decision on who the new Cubs coach should be. Again today, I've just finished reading Goatriders, and they have presented facts that have made me make my selection.

Yesterday Matt Herges (reliever for the Marlins) was on the Score 670 and was talking about Girardi as a manager. Basically he disagreed with almost everything that had been reported about Girardi as a manager.

He's a father-like figure who is tough but fair with his players, but not too much of either. He inspires them to hustle, proven by the fact that Miguel Cabrera used to dog it and after Girardi came in started to hustle. In fact, Herges said Cabrera was moved to tears when Girardi was fired. Herges said he doesn't think there is anyone who wouldn't respond to Girardi's style, and all of the players for the Marlins loved him.

So it seems like Juan Pierre and Aramis Ramirez are waiting to find out who the new manager is until they decide whether or not to test free agency. I say good riddance to Pierre. We can get Gary Matthews Jr. for maybe 2/3 of what Pierre would want, and Matthews is younger, had a better OBP, and is a much, much better fielder. Who cares if he can't steal as much as Pierre, he'll get on base nearly 38% of the time (hopefully). Hell, 35% is better than Pierre. Aramis needs to stay. We can't let one of the top 3rd basemen in the game go. It's not like there are a lot of guys who can play 3rd, hit .291 with 38 HR's and almost 119 RBI's. In fact, you compare that to A-Rod's numbers, and they're very similar (A-Rod: .290, 35 HR's, 121 RBI's). So, perhaps the top 3rd baseman in the game, has numbers almost identical to Ramirez, and is also getting booed currently, but we'd rather have someone other than Ramirez?

Seriously, this is retarded. Give Ramirez whatever he wants. He's not going to command $22 million a year for 10 years, his fielding was back up to pretty good this year from putrid last year, and his numbers are comparable to the best 3rd basemen in the game (not just A-Rod).

Give Ramirez a couple million more to stay for maybe 3 years, and if he wants out, there will be obvious takers since just about every team is drooling for him to opt out of his contract. Let Girardi see what he can do with Ramirez, since they were once teammates (weren't they?) and hopefully Ramirez will respond. Hell, even without Ramirez hustling to first all the time, look at his numbers.

I see no reason why players wouldn't enjoy playing for Girardi. I mean, yeah, it's an obvious change from Dipshit McDoubleSwitch, but he's the freaking NL Manager of the Year. He's got to be doing something right other than coaching the best prospects in baseball.

Also, bring back Kranitz too, he's been with the Cubs for 22 years. Why did we let him leave?
