The Bulls are good
I'm hoping that everyone caught the Bulls game last night, because it was a thing of beauty. The Bulls may never play that well again, but they chose a great time to do so.
First, let me just say that I hate PA announcers. They're stupid. Useless. Watching the stupid Heat get their stupid rings before the game made me hate them more. Which is to say that I hate them now, as I didn't really before, just some of the players (James Posey, Antoine Walker, Shaq). And what's the point of saying somebody's name for a really long time? Like "Shaquiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiillllllllllle O'Neeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllllll." Does that make the game more fun? I know if I was a player, I would rather be introduced and listen to the crowd cheer instead of some jackass who thinks he plays an integral in motivating the crowd. Then, you hear them play the 'hey' song and the guy tells the fans to say Heat when its their turn. I was like, uh, haven't they been there before? I'm sure most of the people know how to cheer at a Heat game. What a bastard this guy must be.
Also last night I learned that Hinrich had his contract extended earlier in the day. John Paxson is a genius. Hinrich said he wasn't worried about getting the extension done now, and he didn't think he actually would. But there is no way you can not make this guy part of your core group of players. He has basically been the embodiment of what these new Bulls (the post-Krause era) are about.
Anyways, onto the game. It was a thing of beauty to come out and see the Bulls absolutely beat down the Heat. That was a beating along the likes of a Bears team. Even better, they Heat got their stupid rings right before the game! And the fans were booing the Heat before the first half even ended. Stupid Alonzo Mourning thanked the crowd or something before the game, and then everyone just got embarassed. It was awesome.
So, I know that this is only one game, and you can't base an entire season's outlook on one game, so I'll try not to. But do you really think that anyone else in the Eastern conference could have come in and delivered such a beating to the Heat? I'm pretty positive the Cavs wouldn't have done it. The Bulls are such a great defensive team. Add to that the fact that they can get out and run now better than ever, they've got 2 legitimate shot blockers (Wallance and Tyrus Thomas), and they're deeper than probably every team in the NBA, how could they not be favorites to win the Central?
The Bulls did an amazing job of getting out and running the fast break last night. They completely outrebounded the Heat, and they got to the free throw line. And, you can't really blame the officials, because in the entire playoffs the home team always got the break in fouls. So you would assume the Heat would the the benefit, since it was their night. The Heat were just continuously out of position, and the Bulls took advantage.
Also, seeing Tyrus Thomas make any sort of impact (2 blocks, at least 1 amazing dunk) he could was awesome. Also awesome was the fact that even Adrian Griffin scored. All 12 guys played, all 12 scored. My only problem was that the last player off the bench should be Adrian Griffin, not Thabo Sefolosha.
I stopped watching in the 3rd quarter, but I occasionally flipped back to see the score. At one point in the 4th I saw Sefolosha pick the Magic PG's (Hite?) pocket, take it down and throw it down on the fast break and get fouled. If this is the contribution we're going to be getting from everyone, it's going to be one awesome season.
So many dunks, so many fast break points. Such good defense. I'm going to say right now that the Bulls win the Eastern Conference. And, while I'm probably wrong, if I'm right you heard it here first.
